A Garden in the Tropics

The Gardens by the Bay is a 100 hectare tropical park located in the prime central district of Singapore.

A design competition was announced in January 2006 to seek world-class design ideas. The international competition drew more than 70 entries submitted by 170 firms from over 24 countries.

Two UK firms eventually got the nods for the Bay East and Bay South gardens. The third garden- Bay Central, will be developed later.

Stepping into the gardens for the first time, it is hard to imagine that you are just a short distance away from the financial district! In the background, you can see the flower dome conservatory, three super tree structures and the Singapore Flyer.

  1. Singapore looks like such a beautiful city. Interesting architecture, water, lots of greenery… How on earth do people get anything done there? I’d be so distracted by the city I’d never be productive.
