A macro lens was the very first “specialty” lens I bought for my camera. Such lens provide 1:1 magnification of your subjects, and allow you to focus on really close objects. Put simply, they let you get up close and personal. With such close-quarters shooting, focusing becomes very important. A very slight nudge and different parts of your photo will become sharp or out of focus. A tripod and lots of patience is needed. And if you’re outdoors, the slightest breeze will be your mortal enemy.
But once you get past the initial investment and learning curve, a whole new world opens up around you. Whether you favor insects, flowers or abstract patterns, it’s safe to say that macro photography will change your perspective of many things that surround us, common and yet unseen.
Today’s image features a common shower scrub. Its interweaving pattern and cheerful color caught my eyes.
