Vita Nuova

The Piazza della Repubblica is a popular meeting place in Florence which has a very artsy vibe to it, perhaps due to the insouciant carousel and the chic patrons of the Giubbe Rosse cafe.

The arch that leads to the square reads:

L’ANTICO CENTRO DELLA CITTÀ
DA SECOLARE SQUALLORE
A VITA NUOVA RESTITUITO

Translated, it reads:

The ancient centre of the city
restored from age-old squalor
to new life
