Arch Upon Arch

Moorish architecture loves its arches. Together with complex masonry, decorative tiles and calligraphy, they are the triumvirate of Moorish design. The Moor were North African people who controlled Spain, Portugal, and the Pyrenees region for hundreds of years during the eighth century. Being Muslims, their architectural styles were heavily influenced by Islamic architecture, which explains its presence in places like Seville.
