Man Made Giants

These Supertrees are found in Gardens by the Bay, Singapore’s latest mega garden-in-the-city project. Eighteen of these structures can be found in the garden, ranging from 25 to 50 meters tall. These “trees” are basically vertical gardens covered in ferns, vines, orchids and bromeliads. Official figures state that over 162,900 plants from 200 species are planted on these structures. Apart from being eye-catching, these Supertrees were also designed to mimic the functions of real trees. Some of them have photovoltaic cells to store solar energy for the night time light up, while others are integrated with two conservatories nearby for cooling and air circulation purposes. They also serve as the welcoming party should aliens decide to land on our tiny shores one day.
