Chiang Kai‑shek Memorial Hall

After the explosion of colour over the last few images, I turn to a black and white capture of the Chiang Kai‑shek Memorial Hall today. While the National Concert Hall and National Theatre are the twin peacocks on Liberty Square, brazenly showing off its colourful plumage, the Memorial Hall itself is a somber and stately monument to Chiang Kai‑shek. While the former leader of the Kuomintang is a divisive figure in life and in death, the monument hints little of the tumultuous years of Taiwan and China, although exhibits inside detail parts of that history. Black and white works wonderfully here, given the structure’s strong symmetrical lines.
