An Empty Audience

An open air mini-amphitheater waits patiently for an audience in Xinbeitou, Taipei.

Among the districts in Taipei, Beitou is the northernmost, and is further subdivided into “old” and “new” areas. Xinbeitou is the “newer” area, and was developed as a hot spring resort under the five decades of Japanese rule in the 1900s. Xinbeitou today is easily accessible by train, and packed with lots of luxury spa, courtesy of the mineral waters originating from the many geothermal vents in the area.
