Sidewalk Tourist

A trip to Jiufen, a mining town of yore, invariably involves a visit to its two main merchant streets: Shuqi Street and Jishan Street. These two pedestrian thoroughfares are lined with shops on either side, and packed with people from end to end. Of course, *everybody* (except me) knows where to get the best food, and are not shy to make a beeline for the best stores. So be prepared to either put up with a long wait, or settle for second/ third-best. Luckily, there’s more to do other than eating. Shops are also crammed with trinkets of all kinds. And when you’re tired of shopping, beautiful views of the surrounding vista will give you a second wind.
