Juxtapose, Redux

The same palace featured in the previous post returns this week in another study of contrasts – this time East vs. West. Deoksugung, one of the Five Grand Palaces in Seoul, is unique in having a western style garden and fountain. The European-style building to the top is called Seokjojeon Hall, and served as the audience hall and sleeping quarters for King Gojong, bearing witness to the tumultuous late Chosun period.
